The Truth Behind Bio-Fuels

 Q: What is Bio-Diesel?
A: Biodiesel is a type of biofuel made by combining animal fat or vegetable oil (such as soybean oil or recycled  restaurant grease) with alcohol and can be directly substituted for diesel as a stand-alone fuel (called B100,  for 100% biodiesel) or be used as an additive (called B20, for 20% bio-diesel). Biodiesel can be used in vehicles  (newer cars, usually 1994 or later, are required for B100) and is beginning to be used in on-site electricity  generation and heating applications
 Q: What is Bio-Fuel?
A: Biofuels are renewable liquid fuels made from plant matter rather than fossil fuels. Today’s primary biofuels  are ethanol and biodiesel. Biofuels can help reduce air toxics emissions, greenhouse gas buildup,  and dependence  on imported oil, while supporting United States agriculture.
Q: What type of Bio-Diesel Does Feece Oil use?
A: We use the highest quality of Bio-Diesel that meets & exceeds ASTM 6751 specs.  We purchase pure B100 & store  it at our Bulk Plants.  From there, depending on what formulation our customer requires (B1, B11, B20, ect…)  we blend it ourselves.  This process allows us to control the quality & cost.
Q: I’ve heard that Bio-Diesel can ruin my engine.  Is that true?
A: NO!  Bio-Diesel cannot ruin your engine.  Most every major engine manufacture in the world approves Bio-Diesel in their engines.
Q: What are the possible side effects of Bio-Diesel?
A: Bio-Diesel does contain a small quantity of a detergent additive that will help clean some of the fuel system.  The  down side to that, is that you may experience some filter clogging in the beginning.
 Q: How is Bio-Diesel Made?
A: Biodiesel is made through a chemical process called transesterification  whereby the glycerin is separated from  the fat or vegetable oil. The process leaves behind two products -- methyl esters (the chemical name for biodiesel)  and glycerin (a valuable byproduct usually sold to be used in soaps and other products).
 Q: Why Should I use Bio-Diesel?
A: Biodiesel is better for the environment because it is made from renewable resources and has lower emissions  compared to petroleum diesel. It is less toxic than table salt and biodegrades as fast as sugar. Since it is made in  the USA from renewable resources such as soybeans, its use decreases our dependence on foreign oil and  contributes to our own economy.
Q: Should I use Bio-Diesel in the Winter?
A: During Winter we suggest only a B1% formulation instead of the B11%.  From November to March we only use  Bio 1% with a winter additive to prevent any clouding or gelling problems.
